James G. Sonsteby, age 80, of Barnesville, MN, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville. Memorial services will be Noon Friday, June 21, 2013 in the Camp Ripley Chapel on the Camp Ripley Grounds near Little Falls, MN. Burial will follow in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley, MN. James Gene Sonsteby was born on June 21, 1932 in Hasty, MN, to Carl Wilhelm and Olga Elizabeth (Gunderson) Sonsteby. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school through 8th grade. James was united in marriage to Edith Mae Sunder on February 28, 1953 in Buffalo, MN. James entered the US Army during the Korean War and served 2 years. During that time he was stationed in Germany for one year. After his honorable discharge from the service, they returned to reside in Coon Rapids< MN where Jim worked for Butler Manufacturing for about 15 years. They then moved to Alexandria, MN in 1967 and Jim owned and operated a mink ranch. He and his wife Edith did this for several years, until he became disabled and retired. Jim and Edith moved to Barnesville in 2000. Jim loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and traveling around the country in his motor home. He also liked to play pool and horseshoes. Jim is survived by his wife, Edith of Barnesville, MN; two daughters: Kathleen Sonsteby, Barnesville, Dawn (Rick) Anderson, Kalispell, MT; four grandchildren: Shamus Busch, Lindsey (Kevin) Mieras, Briana Johnson, and Riley (Dawn) Brelje, three great grandchildren: Collen & Violet Miras, Addison Brelje, two brothers: Ward (Carol) Sonsteby, Alexandria, MN, John (Marainne) Sonsteby, Northome, MN, two sisters Colleen Worden, Litchfield, MN, Nancy (Howard) Forer, Rice, MN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two nephews: Scott & Mark Sonsteby.
