Arthur James Furst, 96, Barnesville, MN, died on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Barnesville. Arthur was born on December 11, 1912 in rural Barnesville. He married Phyllis Hanson on December 22, 1932. He was the manager of the Barnesville Potato House for many years in addition to raising potatoes. He worked as a painter with Twin City Construction and owned Arts Antiques. Art and his wife Phyllis ran the pond skating rink for many years. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and gardening in his spare time. Art was known best for living in the purple house on Maine Street. That was the color his wife loved, and he wanted to keep it that way. Simple pleasures brought Arthur great happiness: teasing grandchildren, shelling pecans from his daughters yard in Texas, sitting outside, cutting, splitting and burning wood, and frequenting flea markets in order to both buy and sell. Art is survived by his children; Virginia Ronsberg, Ramsey, MN, Priscilla Ambrose, Barnesville, MN, Dixie (Ron) Lund, Big Lake, MN, Jim Furst, Barnesville, MN, Julie Hough, Fargo, ND, Linda (John) Anthony, Naples, TX, Jenny Hoppe, Barnesville, MN, 25 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, and one sister, Ferne Graening, Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Furst, parents, Roman and Lena Furst, one sister, Lucille Kara, one brother, Leslie Tudy Furst, and one granddaughter, Debra MacKrell. Visitation: There will be a visitation from 5-7 on Thursday, March 26 followed by a prayer service at 7 in Dobmeier funeral home, Barnesville. Funeral: The funeral will be Friday, March 27 at 11 in Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville.
