Glorine Victoria Schulstad, age 94, of Barnesville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, October 15, 2012 at ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville. Glorine was born on July 4, 1918 to Iver and Inga (Halverson) Swenson in Barnesville, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. She attended school in Barnesville, and was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1936. Glorine married Leslie F. Menze privately among close friends on October 13, 1940. Les worked for Glorines dad for the six weeks following to assure he earned the job on his own merits before telling her parents. They enjoyed an active life while working together at Swenson Chevrolet. From this union they had two children, Margaret Ann and Richard. Leslie passed away in 1956. Glorine worked as a parts person and bookkeeper for Swenson Chevrolet in Barnesville until 1956. In 1941, she received a national award for selling the most accessories on a new Chevrolet. In 1957, she began work as a secretary for the Barnesville Elementary School Principal, then for a time assisted the High School Principal, followed by a period as assistant to the Superintendent of Schools, and later became Business Manager for the Barnesville School District, until she retired in 1990. Glorine married Maynard Malland on October 25, 1969. Maynard passed away in 1979. Glorine married John Jack Schulstad on September 10, 1983. Glorine and Jack enjoyed both their working and retirement lives together. They also shared friends and had a wonderful social circle. They particularly enjoyed sharing their individual families with each other. Jack passed away in 2010. Glorine was very active at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She was their treasurer, on the Altar Guild, in both the Junior and Senior Choirs, a Church Council member, President of the Ladies Aid, and a Sunday School Teacher. She was proud to be the oldest baptized member of the congregation. Glorine was a member of the Barnesville VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed being active in Barnesville Potato Days. In 2008, she and Jack were honored for their dedicated years of service as Grand Marshalls of the parade. Glorine also enjoyed her special daily gatherings with the ladies in her coffee group, Florence McDunn and Audrey Johnson. Glorine is survived by her children, Margaret Ann Thompson, of Barnesville, and Richard (Ronda) Menze, of Oxbow, North Dakota; Grandchildren, Tim (Twila) Thompson, Todd (Desi) Thompson, Sasha (Dennis) Loock, and Paige Menze; Great-grandchildren, Tessa, Tomi, Tandi, Tanner, Tyler, and William; nieces, nephews, and cousins; all of the Schulstad families, particularly children Lori, Mary, Carol and John, who were very special to Glorine; The family would also like to recognize Sophie Swenson, Glorines special caregiver and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, and three sisters: Stella, Gladys, and Harriet. Memorials may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville.
