Arthur Hammer, 74, of Pelican Rapids, MN formerly of Barnesville died on June 29, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating.Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday, July 5, 2013 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home and visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday. Arthur Seolien Hammer was born March 22, 1939 to Seolien and Lida (Halvorson) Hammer in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Arthur was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay, MN. He grew up in Rothsay and later attended Morris Agricultural School graduating in 1957. After graduation he worked for Trosvig Farms near Rothsay. On February 18, 1961 he was united in marriage to Ione Goldberg at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville. From 1962 until 1986, Arthur was employed with Dakon in Fargo eventually becoming a manager. For a couple of years he worked as a real estate agent for Hammer Real Estate in Wahpeton, ND, followed by his employment from 1988 to 1994 with RDO in Barnesville. Then Arthur worked as a manager in the parts department for EW-Wylie Trucking until his retirement. After his retirement he worked part-time in the parts department for Evenson trucking in Pelican Rapids. Arthur was very active at St. James United Church of Christ being involved with their choir, call committee, trustees, and mens group. He delivered the Fargo Forum and Minneapolis Tribune to Barnesville and neighboring residents. He was a volunteer for OAKS in Pelican Rapids. He was also a former member of the Barnesville Jaycees Arthur enjoyed spending time with grandchildren. He also enjoyed Nascar, especially cheering for Dale Earnhardt Sr., and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Arthur is survived by his wife, Ione Hammer, Pelican Rapids, two daughters: Christi (Wesley) Evenson, Pelican Rapids and Melissa (Chad) Hayden, Pelican Rapids; son, Brad (Shari) Hammer, Barnesville; 10 grandchildren: Joshua (Tiffany Hackman) Kemper, Samantha Graening, Jacob Hayden, Nichole Hammer, Josie Hayden, Samantha Hammer, Jed Evenson, Dalton Hayden, Mike Mork, and Chloe Evenson; 2 great-grandchildren: Brayden Davis and Kason Kemper; Sister, Joy (Jerome) Toso, Rothsay, MN; Sisters-inlaw: Janet Holt, Mary (Joe) Perez, Linda Smith, Brenda (Dean) Rueckert, and Debra (Scott) Sandstrom; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Evon and his wife, Romayne, and an infant brother; and brother-in-law, Wayne Holt.
