Ardis P Aakre

Ardis Palma Aakre, 83, died peacefully at the Eventide Fairmont, Moorhead, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Ardis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will remain in our hearts forever. Ardis was born on November 26, 1928 to Adolph and Petra (Egge) Anderson. She grew up southeast of Rollag in Tansem Township. She attended country school through 8th grade and then helped work on the family farm as her brothers were serving in the military. On December 12, 1948 Ardis married Robert Aakre at Rollag Lutheran Church. Ardis and Robert were both life-time members of Rollag Lutheran Church having been baptized, confirmed and married by Reverend S. G. Hauge. Ardis and Robert were blessed with 11 children, all living in Minnesota, 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. They were married for 59 years. Robert passed away December 18, 2007. Ardis enjoyed working for a number of years, rolling and frying lefsa at Carls Lefsa, Hawley, MN. Her children and grand-daughters had the privilege of learning the technique of lefsa making from her. Some of the highlights of Ardis and Roberts life together were their trip to Norway, as well as many travels throughout the United States. Ardis always enjoyed the many family reunions and gatherings with family, friends and neighbors. Ardis always enjoyed having company and would always have coffee on and could make a delightful lunch in little or no time. Special times spent were the Aakre Birthday Club, Leah Circle group, bible study and neighbor gatherings. The grandchildren looked forward to going to grandmas house and helping grandma make home baked cookies and bars. She is survived by her 11 children: Richard Aakre of Barnesville, MN; Linda (Ron) Ekre, Lois (Joe) Pederson of Hawley, MN; Barbara (Jeff) Grunewald of Dent, MN; Ronald (Faye) Aakre, Julie (Keith) Hansen, Roger (Debbie) Aakre of Hawley, MN; Gary (Virginia) Aakre of Nelson, MN; Ellis (Debra) Aakre, Patricia (Gary) Jensen of Hawley, MN; Carla (Paul) Wendt of Detroit Lakes, MN; two brothers: Oscar Anderson, Barnesville, MN and Adolph Jr. Anderson, Felton, MN; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; 8 sisters: Clara, Alma, Emma, Hilda, Jeanette, Olga, Bertha and Ruby; 5 brothers: Ole, Albert, Carl, Elmer and John. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Rollag Cemetery for a Cemetery Directory in the memory of Robert and Ardis. Visitation: Friday, February 24, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, Minnesota. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
