Marguerite A. Wardeberg

Marguerite Wardeberg passed away quietly in the presence of her family on September 10, 2008 at the Barnesville Good Samaritan Society, Barnesville, MN. Marguerite was born on March 10, 1920 to Arthur and Caroline (Wulff) Berg of Barnesville, where she grew to womanhood. She attended Barnesville High School, graduating first in her class in 1937. She then worked for Norbys Department Store. On October 19, 1940 she married Boyd Anderson with whom she had three sons, David, Douglas and Richard. In 1946, Boyd and Marguerite moved to the farm and built their house, remodeling the former parish school from the Assumption Catholic Church which they had moved to their property. Widowed in August of 1948, she kept the farm and worked for the Schlosser State Farm Insurance Agency. She married Floyd Wardeberg on February 12, 1955, making their home on the farm, where they continued to raise her children. She involved herself fully to her children and church and community affairs. Marguerite was a life long member of St. James United Church of Christ serving in many capacities, most notably Sunday School Superintendant, as well as church secretary. Marguerite was a member of Circle #6, the Womens Guild and the church choir. She was the Barnesville Township treasurer for many years and was a long term secretary for the Clay County Fair. She was also a long term member of the Literary League as well as several other community organizations. Marguerite enjoyed watching sports, especially golf, the Twins and the Vikings. With her husband Floyd and friends she would travel to Canada and other locations throughout the United States for fishing excursions. She toured the Holy Land with her Aunt Eliza Janssen and China with her daughter-in-law, Diane Townsend-Anderson, as well as traveling to Europe. She loved her family, spending much of her later life with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons David (Cathy) Anderson of Highland Park, IL, Richard (Diane) Townsend-Anderson of Brooklyn Park, MN, daughter-in-law Pat Anderson of Wasilla, AK, grandchildren Charles (Tammy) Anderson of Barnesville, Collin (Stacy) Anderson of Blaine, MN, Lori (Josh) Kehrwald of Park Ridge, IL, Kimberly (Dan) Kelleher of New York, NY, Erik (Halle) Anderson of Van Nuys, CA, Jonathan Anderson of London, England, and Caroline Anderson of Highland Park, IL. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Maureen) Berg of Pelican Rapids, MN, nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Boyd and Floyd, her son, Douglas, one grandchild, Minu and one brother, Lawrence. Funeral Service: Monday, at 11 am in St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville. Visitation: Sunday from 4-8 with a prayer service at 7, in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before the service on Monday at the church. Interment: Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville.
