Wesley C. Maesse, 74 of rural Battle Lake, Minnesota formerly Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Golden Living Center on Otter Tail Lake, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 26, at 11:00 in the Baker-Downer Westminster Presbyterian Church, Baker, Minnesota. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery near Sabin, Minnesota. Wesley, son of Ernest and Mabel (McCarl) Maesse, was born December 8, 1933 on his family farm near Baker, Minnesota where he attended country school and grew to manhood. He attended Barnesville High School and after his schooling he farmed with his father and brother. On August 21, 1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on April 3, 1957 and returned to the Baker area where he worked as farm labor. Wesley worked for Jim McEvers and the Forest Thompson Farms and he did some custom combining. In 2005 he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, Barnesville and in March of last year a resident of the Golden Living Center on Otter Tail Lake. He lived there until the time of his death. He was a member of the Baker-Downer Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 153 of Barnesville. In his early years he loved to trap gophers. Wesley is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Gloria Schenck of Baker, Kenneth (Helen) Maesse of Moorhead, Marlys Schenck of Moorhead and Rodney (Kay) Maesse of Fargo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald and two brothers-in-law Milo Schenck and Alton Schenck.
