Earl E.J Hoppe, 87, of Barnesville, MN died on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Barnesville, MN with Rev. Thomas Eaves officiating. Burial will be at Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Earl Johnk Hoppe was born on January 26, 1926 to Carl and Lena (Johnk) Hoppe at the family farm near Comstock, MN. He was baptized and confirmed. He grew up on the family farm near Comstock. He attended country school through the 8th grade. Earl helped on the family farm for many years. Earl entered the US Army and earned a purple heart in the Korean War. On January 26, 1952, Earl married Iris Edwards in Sabin, Minnesota. While Earl was in the service, they made their home in Manhattan, Kansas until 1952 when they moved to Moorhead. In 1953, they moved to Comstock, Minnesota where they lived until 1957 when they moved to the Schindler farm near Barnesville. Earl farmed all of his life. Iris died on September 23, 2000. Earl suffered a stroke in 2004. He taught himself how to eat, talk, and walk again. Earl was a member of St. Johns Church, the American Legion, and the VFW in Barnesville. Earl enjoyed cutting wood. He also helped take care of his grandkids. He also enjoyed ice fishing and playing pinochle with his happy hour crew. Earl is survived by five children; Karl of Barnesville, Steven (Tammy) of rural Sabin, Mark of Moorhead, Jayne Lien of Barnesville, and Susan (Kevin) McGough of Barnesville, he is also survived by his grandchildren; Troy (Michelle) Hoppe of Barnesville, Torie (Penny) Hoppe of Fargo, ND, Dayna (Derek Mostue) Hoppe of Barnesville, and Shelby (Matt Simon) Lien of Moorhead, Jake (Alyssa) McGough of Barnesville, Ryan Earl McGough of Barnesville, and Nikki McGough of Barnesville, Great grandchildren Coryn and Ethan, Bria and Ashlyn, Cody, Brylee, and another great grandchild on the way, just like grandchildren Jeremy (Shannon) Stetz, Cayden and Olivia, Amanda (Scott Wilson) Stetz and McKenzie, brother Leslie Bud (Darlene) Hoppe of Barnesville, sister in law Alverna Hoppe, of Barnesville, two very special nieces Karen and Mary, special nurse Trisha Nosal, and special caregiver Malissa Burnside. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris, his parents, two brothers: Kenneth and Neal Hoppe, and sister in law Virginia Hoppe.
