Margaret Carr, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Clayco Care Center in Barnesville, Minnesota. Margaret Ann Carr was born on July 30, 1915 in Glyndon, Minnesota to Oscar and Emma (Thompson) Wangen. She grew up in Glyndon and graduated from Glyndon High School. She attended Moorhead State Teacher College and obtained her two year teaching degree. She taught at the one room country schools in Hitterdahl and Baker. Margaret married Kenneth Carr on April 5, 1939 at Glyndon Lutheran Church. The couple made their home and farmed in Elkton Township. Margaret went back to college at MSTC and obtained her Bachelors Degree in teaching. She taught Elementary Education from 1964 " 1969 in Borup and from 1969 - 1977 in Moorhead, retiring in 1977. Margaret and Kenneth enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. For hobbies, she enjoyed reading, sewing, swimming, golfing, playing billiards, and playing the game Majeon. Margaret was a very active member of St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville and served as a member on their womens guild. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Barnesville Literary League, a book club, and The Red Hats. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Margaret is survived by four sons, Kenwood (Pamela) Carr of Barnesville, Keith (Rosie) Carr of rural Barnesville, Ray (Shari) Carr of Jamestown, and Mark (Julie) Carr of rural Baker; two daughters, Mae (Dean) Tonsfeldt of Oxbow, North Dakota, and Mary (Scott) Springer of Rogers, Minnesota. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren: Patrick (Emily) Carr and children, Kelly, Travis, and Evan; Tanya (Brad) Waldron and children Emma and Abigail; Christopher (Tanya) Carr and children Lydia, Annica, and Liam; Angela (Michael) Ellis and son Connor; Sarah (Derrick) Montplaisir and children Kaja, Joe, and Jack; James Carr; Catherine (Lance) Olson and children Jenna and Jace; Susan (Lee) Davis and children Preston, Jackson, Hallie, and Peyton; Matthew (Dana) Carr and son Austin; Kenneth Carr; Casey Carr; Nichole (Jeff) Suko and children Chloe and Cruz; Brandon Carr; Carla (John) Grafstrom and children Jacob and Emma; Ryan (Michelle) Tonsfeldt and children Isabelle, Luke, and Adam; Michelle (Daryl) Brown and children Louis, Breanna, Katelyn, Augustus, and Clare; William (Dawn) Carr and daughter Maizey; Kari Carr; Laura Carr and son Aidan; Karen (Jason) Mixner; Megan Springer; Robert Springer; and Trevor Springer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son, James; sister, June Wangen; and great-granddaughter, Hope Hali Tonsfeldt. Funeral Service: Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation: Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
