James C. Neumann, age 85, of Rothsay, Minnesota, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 at St. Catherines Living Center in Wahpeton, North Dakota. James Charles Neumann was born on January 3, 1927 to Edward and Mae (Kukowski) Neumann in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He moved with his family to a farm near Erhard, Minnesota, and in 1942 they moved to a farm in Manston Township in Wilkin County. He attended school in Maine, Minnesota, and later in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. James married the love of his life, Marcella Dow, on September 6, 1949 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, Minnesota. From this union they had 7 children. James loved farming and made it his life work. He had a straw and hay business for many years and farmed up until he entered St. Catherines Living Center in 2008. James loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grand children and great-grand children. He also enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and singing along with the musicians at St. Catherines Living Center. He was involved in many other activities there as well. James prided himself on being dressed up in a nice shirt and tie for Sundays, and was always smiling and happy. He enjoyed life to the fullest. James is survived by his children: Steve Neumann of Rothsay, Minnesota, Thomas Neumann of Rothsay, Minnesota, Kathleen (Phil) Lehn of Alexandria, Minnesota, Sandra (Darrell) Hanneman of Rothsay, Minnesota, Mary Marquardt of Rothsay, Minnesota, Peter Neumann of Wahpeton, North Dakota, and Paulette Neumann of Hawley, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren: Amanda (Chris) Rash, Travis (Stacy) Neumann, Paul Neumann, Chris (Katie) Lehn, Theresa Lehn, Dawn (Curt) Klossner, Joe (Mandy) Hanneman, Andy Hanneman, Stacie (Corey) Quackenbush, Donny Marquardt, Brad Marquardt, Morgan Marquardt, Jackie Marquardt, Alexandra Neumann, and Kristin Novotny; 10 great-grandchildren: Heather, Austin, Thomas, Siri, Emma, Alea, Peyton, Kacyn, Miranda, and Jackson; sister, Delores (Don) Jones of Herman, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Alida Neumann of Clearwater, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; his parents; a daughter-in-law, Twyla; and his brother, David. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, May 25, 2012 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, Minnesota Visitation: Will be at the Dobmeier Funeral Home on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
