Troy Garnett Herrel, Sr., age 89, a resident of Barnesville, Minnesota died on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Clayco Care Center in Barnesville, Minnesota. Troy grew up in the Grove, Oklahoma area. In 1943, he was united in marriage to Mable Jane Laverty in Tampa, Texas. Troy entered the United States Army and later the Air Force serving from 1943 to 1963 serving in World War II and being part of the Battle of the Bulge. When Troy served in the United States Air Force he was also active in the Strategic Air Command. After his military duty Troy worked for Martin Marietta in Littleton, Colorado for a couple of years. After that time Troy was employed with Stanley Aviation in Aurora, Colorado for numerous years until his retirement in 1985. Mable died on March 29, 1997. On August 28, 1999, Troy was united in marriage to Betsey Bohner at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Barnesville. Troy and Betsey spent the summers in Barnesville and the remaining part of the year in Texas and Colorado. Troy enjoyed watching football and basketball even replay games from previous years. He was also an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan. Troy is survived by his wife, Betsey, Barnesville; daughter, Joyce Tate, Commerce City, Colorado; step-children, Winefred Loraas, Velva, ND, Donald (Jackie) Bohner, Wolverton, Dennis (Kris) Bohner, Lake Park, Dale (Tracy) Bohner, Lake Park, DuWayne Bohner, Rothsay, Diane (Denny) Zayic, Ogema, Donna (Leon) Dunham, Barnesville, Dean (Naomi) Bohner, Lake Park; granddaughter, LaFonda Tate; 21 step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mable; infant daughter, Donna; son, Troy Herrel Jr.; grandson, Troy Herrel III; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation: Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Barnesville, MN with Rev. Tom Eaves officiating. Burial: Fort Logan Cemetery, Denver, Colorado
