Mary Bekkerus Tester Martineau, age 79, a resident of Fridley, Minnesota, died on Friday, September 2, 2011, at Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. " Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Barnesville, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Barnesville City Cemetery, Barnesville, Minnesota. Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. - Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church, Fridley, Minnesota Mary Elizabeth Bekkerus was born August 27, 1932, in Barnesville, Minnesota, to Hilbert and Dorothy (Stanley) Bekkerus. She was raised in Barnesville and graduated from Barnesville School. In 1953 Mary was united in marriage to Charles Tester at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Together they had three sons: Robert, John and Mark. Charles died November 25, 1969. Mary married Harold Martineau in 1976 at St. Philips Lutheran Church, Fridley. He passed away in 1992. Mary received her teaching certificate when she was 38 years old and was a school teacher at Brimhall Elementary, Roseville, MN. She loved to read, go dancing, travel, and spend time at her lake home on West Silent Lake. She loved to cook for others especially during the holidays. She liked to help people quietly without others knowledge. Mary is survived by her sons: Robert (Debra) Tester, Hibbing, MN; John (Joan) Tester, Bemidji, MN; Mark (Tammy) Tester, Otsego, MN; grandchildren: Charles, Elizabeth, Kayla and Sean; brother, Julian (Joyce) Bekkerus; sisters: Karen Hanson; Linda (Gerald) Spiesz; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilbert and Dorothy; husbands, Charles Tester and Harold Martineau; and brother, Neil.
