Duane G. Pender, Age 74 went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2009. He died at his home in Barnesville, Minnesota surrounded by his loving family. Duane, son of Gordon Jack and Pearl (Reynolds) Pender, was born May 24, 1935. He attended school and grew to manhood in the Downer-Barnesville area. He enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1952 where he completed his education and served with the 10th Infantry Division, completing a tour of duty in Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in September of 1955. On June 8, 1956 Duane was united in marriage to Sharon Liebenow at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. The couple made their home in Downer. In 1969 the family moved to Barnesville. Duane was a plasterer in the Fargo-Moorhead area before returning to school at Moorhead Technical College in 1973. He completed the accounting program and worked for the Barnesville Farmers Elevator for 13 years. He returned to the plastering industry in 1989, and worked for Conroy Brothers, commuting weekly from his home in Barnesville to the Twin Cities area until his retirement in 1998. He and Sharon continued to live in Barnesville and enjoyed spending many winters in Brownsville, Texas. Duane was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. He was a member of the American Legion Post 153 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4628 both of Barnesville. Duane was an avid golfer both in Minnesota and in Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his Springer Spaniel, Jade. Duane could be counted on to travel any distance to the grandkids events, being fondly referred to as their number one fan. Duane is survived by his wife, Sharon; three children, Michael (Lynn) Pender of Little Falls, Minnesota, Debra (Curtis) Pender-Tilleraas of Moorhead, Susan (Terry) Ernst also of Moorhead; five grandchildren, Bryan Pender, Jim Pender, Kaylyn Pender, Jenna Pender and Spencer Ernst; one brother, Gary (Becki) Pender of Alexandria, Minnesota. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Cameron (Lue) Liebenow of Eagan, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Margie Hawkins of New Ulm, Minnesota, Betty (Marvin) Nelson of Fertile, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Orville Hawkins and his nephew, Corey Pender. Duane was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed beyond measure.
