Lloyd Scheffler, 86, of Barnesville, MN, died on Wednesday, March 06, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Lloyd Harold Scheffler was born on April 16, 1926 to William Anton and Helena Lena Irene (Fankhanel) Scheffler in Atherton Township, in rural Barnesville, MN. He attended country school in Atherton Township. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the US Army. He served his country and worked on radio communications for a year. During the time he was in the service, Lloyds father became ill and he came home to run the family farm. Lloyd married Dorothy Katherine Ladwig on September 9, 1952. They started out living on his family farm for a year and a half before buying the farm he has resided at since 1954. Lloyd farmed all of his life. He was a jack of all trades and fixed many tractors and machinery for himself and neighbors over the years. He also repaired tractors for a few different implement dealers including: Johnson-Rogers, McCasslins, Triple R, and John Deere. Lloyd enjoyed fishing and hunting. For many years, he would ice fish almost every day. He enjoyed several trips to Montana hunting. In 2000, Lloyd received the Wilkin County Conservation Award for his methods of farming. He planted corn for the deer to eat every year. He and Dorothy also enjoyed and fed many other wild animals that frequented their farmstead. He served on the Atherton Town Board for over 25 years. Lloyd is survived by his wife Dorothy Scheffler, Barnesville, one daughter Marilyn (Geo) Booms, Lott, TX, two grandchildren: Duane Moberg, and Denise Moberg of Fort Collins, CO, one great granddaughter Alexis Moberg, one brother Wilbert (MaryAnn) Scheffler, Barnesville, MN, two sisters: Pearl Loyal, Ridgecrest, CA, Eleanor Siggerud, Barnesville, MN, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
