Inez T. Fankhanel, of Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday, January 23, 2009, in Elim Rehabilitation and Care Center Home, Fargo. She was 97 years old. Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating. Phyllis Peppel will serve as soloist accompanied by organist Grace McEvers. Pallbearers will be Janice Catalan, Sandy Erlandson, Robert Nicklay, David Egge, Justin Fankhanel, Alex Fankhanel, Kari Fankhanel and Dan Fankhanel. Honorary Pallbearers will be her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 " 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before the service at the church. Interment will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville. Inez, daughter of John and Emma (Schuler) Baumgartner, was born July 12, 1911 on her family farm in Deerhorn Township of Wilkin County, Minnesota where she attended school and grew to womanhood. After her schooling she worked on the family farm. Inez married Herman Fankhanel on March 26, 1932 in Jamestown, North Dakota. They made their home and farmed near Barnesville where they raised their family. For many years Inez volunteered at the This and That Shop in Moorhead. After Herman died in 1990, Inez continued to live on the farm until 2006. She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ and the ladies Circle. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was famous for her coffee bread and cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed making quilts, growing flowers and especially gardening. She raised strawberries and raspberries that folks all over the area enjoyed. Inez loved to dance and visit at all family gatherings. Another highlight in her life was a trip to Hawaii in 1994. Inez is survived by two daughters and three sons, Erma (Leland) Egge of Barnesville, Virgil (June) Fankhanel of Barnesville, Arnold Fankhanel of Barnesville, LaVonne (Marvin) Nicklay of Fargo and DeLyle Fankhanel of Barnesville; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two daughters, Janice Fankhanel and Rolene Nicklay; four sisters, Hazel Miller, Leata Miller, Edith Ronningen, Ella Rinnels and four brothers, Bill, Vern, Johnny and Mike. www.dobmeierfuneralhome.com
