DeRoyal C. Nord, 83 of rural Wolverton, Minnesota died Friday, January 1, 2010, in his home near Wolverton. DeRoyal Charles Nord was born June 10, 1926 to Emil and Nellie (Edenstrom) Nord at their home in rural Wolverton. He was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran in Wolverton. He attended school in Wolverton. He wanted to join his two brothers serving in WWII, so when he was of age, he signed up for the service and passed his General Military Services Physical in December of 1945. He was needed at home, so he did not complete any military service. DeRoyal married Edith Robertsdahl on November 2, 1957 in Hickson, North Dakota. They made their home in the Wolverton area where he farmed with his dad and brother. In 1964, DeRoyal and Edith moved their family to a farm in Norwegian Grove Township, rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota where they farmed and raised livestock. Edith died in 1996. In 2003, DeRoyal moved to a farmstead near his home farm east of Wolverton and enjoyed working the land he grew up on. He continued to make regular trips to the Pelican farm to help son Paul and visit family and friends. He spoke of his fond memories in Norwegian Grove Township often. DeRoyal believed in being involved in his community and did so by dedicating countless hours to being a member of organizations and serving on executive boards. By being on the boards of these organizations, he felt it was his duty to serve the people he represented, and he did that well. Although he thoroughly enjoyed serving on these boards, it was the close friendships he developed that he treasured most. He was a member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council as well as president. He enjoyed serving on several boards including Lake Region Coop Electric Association, Minnesota Rural Electric Association, Norwegian Grove Township, Park Region Coop, Lakeland Sheep Producers Association, and was a 4-H Leader for 35 years. DeRoyal enjoyed farming and raising livestock, even more so, after he retired, doing field work up to this past year. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them, particularly his grandchildren. He traveled to fairs, cattle shows, church and school programs, ball games of every kind and most recently watching his grandsons hockey tournament in Moorhead, Minnesota. Visiting with friends and reminiscing about old times brought DeRoyal much happiness as did reading and going to auction sales. He is survived by his children, Robert (Amber) Nord of rural Wolverton, Naomi (Willis) Goll of Rochester, Minnesota, Valorie (Don) Gibson of Leonard, North Dakota, and Paul (Tammy) Nord of rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; grandchildren, Audra, Alisha, Luke Nord; Tyrell and Ryan Goll; Brady, Ashton, Quinten, Greta and Kayla Gibson; Ashley & Abby Ganyo, Dillon and Cody Nord. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Carr of Minneapolis; one sister-in-law Myrtle Nord of Wolverton, Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his wife Edith; brothers, Gerald and Ardell; and sister, Bonita. Visitation: Monday from 5:00 " 8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before the service at the church.
