Bernard "Bernie" Nicklay

Visitation: Tuesday, March 15, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 2:00 p.m. - Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville, Minnesota Bernard Bernie Nicklay, age 84, a resident of Barnesville, Minnesota, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Palliative Care Unit of the VA Health Care Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Bernard Arnold Nicklay was born October 7, 1926, on the family farm near Barnesville, Minnesota, the son of Reuben and Hilda (Gaethke) Nicklay. On August 30, 1954, he was united in marriage to Vivian LaFayette at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville. Bernie proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Okinawa during WWII. After serving, he worked for 35 years in the roofing business and held multiple jobs after retirement. Bernie was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville. He was also a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Nicklay, Barnesville, MN; sons, Gerald (Mary) Nicklay, New Ulm, MN, and Roger Nicklay, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Cory Nicklay, Moorhead, MN, Kate Nicklay, Fargo, ND, Bradley and Ashley Nicklay, both of New Ulm, MN; sister, Emily Norman, Breckenridge, MN; brother, Donald (Mary Jo) Nicklay, Dilworth, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Hilda; brothers, Arthur and Kenneth Nicklay.
