Leonard Holland, age 89, of Barnesville, Minnesota died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Leonard William Holland was born May 3, 1923 in rural Barnesville, Minnesota the son of Harry and Mathilda (Austin) Holland. He was raised and attended country school near Barnesville. As a young man he worked with his father on the family farm and also helped the neighbors. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Upon his discharge he returned home and continued faming. On April 9, 1947 he was united in marriage to Cecilia Nosal in the Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville and in April shared their 65th Wedding Anniversary. In 1956 he went to work with Roggansack Decorating for 16 years out of Fargo, Moorhead and the surrounding area. During the 1960s Leonard, his brother, Milt and sister-in-law, Tootsie, played in a band called the Metronomes. In 1972 Leonard started Holland Construction and was a dedicated homebuilder and business man in the Barnesville area all of his life. He later opened Leonard Bar out of the Shamrock and then moved to a bigger building by the Record Review to accommodate food and live music. Leonard was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion where he was a past commander. He loved music and encouraged his children to play and start the band Whiskey Creek. Leonard also was and avid reader and loved spending time with his grandchildren. The world lost one of the sweetest, kindest and most gentle souls, he will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cecilia; children, David (Joann) Holland of Moorhead, Minnesota, Marcia (Craig) Dilbeck of Barnesville, Minnesota, Dana (Shirlee) Holland of Barnesville, Minnesota and Curtis (Roxanne) Holland of Ogema, Minnesota; grandchildren, Lynn (Raymond) Reading of Hawley, Minnesota, Joseph (Tami) Holland of Moorhead, Minnesota, Jarod Holland of Moorhead, Minnesota, Kyle (Beth) Dilbeck of Fargo, North Dakota, Brain (Cherie) Dilbeck of Barnesville, Minnesota, Mark (Julie) Dilbeck of Blaine, Minneosta, Craig Dilbeck, Jr. (Jenna Olson) of Barnesville, Minnesota, Erik Dilbeck (Katy Hoffbeck) of Barnesville, Minnesota, Dana (Jessica) Holland, Jr. of Rothsay, Minnesota, Michael Holland (Danielle LeClair) of Moorhead, Minnesota and Melissa Holland (Heath Magnussen) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; twenty one great grandchildren; brother, Milton (Tootsie) Holland of Barnesville; sisters, Eula (Donald) Moll of Moorhead, Minnesota and Joy Rheault of Andover, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Melva Poitras, Zella Rea, Zola Bergseid and brothers, Vernon Holland, Harry Holland, Glen Holland and Gale Holland. Funeral Service: Will be 11:00 am, Friday, May 18, 2012 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation: Will be Thursday at the Dobmeier Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and will resume one hour prior to services. Burial: St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville. The Dobmeier Funeral Home of Barnesville is assisting the family with arrangements.
