Darlene Lien, 74, died on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Sanford Health Pallative Care in Fargo, ND. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Colin Grangaard officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Monday, December 30, 2013, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. Darlene Mae Karlstad was born on April 20, 1939, to Horace and Louise (Degner) Karlstad in Fergus Falls, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Fergus Falls. She was raised and attended school in Fergus Falls. She was married to Arlen James Griffin and to this union five children were born. She was later united in marriage to Arvid Jerome Lien on March 4, 1967, and to this union a son was added. They lived in Fergus Falls for several years before moving to Barnesville in 1976. After moving to Barnesville, they bought a cafe and operated the Lien Cafe for a few years. She also worked at H & R Block, the Barnesville Care Center, the Eagle Cafe, the Golf Course, and as a Barnesville School Bus Driver. Through her years she enjoyed playing softball with her daughters. She also enjoyed bowling for many years. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play. Playing cards was also a favorite pastime. She served on the HRA Board in Barnesville. She is survived by 6 children: Duane (Teresa Bohmer) Griffin, Barnesville, Christy (Scott) VanWechel, Barnesville, Sharon (Doug) Bergan, Fargo, Susan (Chuck) Rodke, Eagan, MN, Michael (Tamara) Griffin, West Linn, OR, Tim (Tonya) Lien, Barnesville, 25 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, one brother Jerry (Judy) Karlstad, Mandan, ND, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Arvid in 2005, her parents, and one brother Dennis.
