Charles Hovde, age 87, a resident of Barnesville, Minnesota died on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Charles Edward Hovde was born on June 4, 1925 in Nannkagon Township in Wisconsin the son of Edward and Hattie (Sands) Hovde. Charles attended high school in Hurley, Wisconsin. During World War II Charles was a Seaman 1st class in the United States Navy. After his military duty he attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, North Dakota. On April 8, 1950 Charles was united in marriage to Eldora Thornton. They moved to Barnesville where Charles worked for Garven Mechanical in Barnesville for numerous years. After his employment at Garven Mechanical he worked for Chevrolet Garage in Barnesville for many years retiring in 1990. In March of 2011 Charles entered the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville and the V.F.W. Charles is survived by his wife, Eldora, Barnesville; children: Sharry (Douglas) Hermes, Barney, ND, Terry (Teresa) Hovde, Moorhead, Mary Niemitalo and her friend, Mike Levin, Lake Park, MN and Kari Krull and her friend, Mike Breuer, Walcott, ND; six grandchildren: Kolynda Korinek and friend, Gene Erickson, Krystal Ihli and friend, Duane Charles, Trevis (Jennifer) Ekberg, Levi Niemitalo, Torie Krull and friend, Aly Brees, and Tanasha Krull and friend, Greg Wanner; nine great-grandchildren: Ashlynn Manock, Britney Manock, Cortney Korinek, Dalton Ihli, Chandler Rickabaugh-Krull, Corbin Ekberg, Carson Charles, and Alexander Tufte; great-great-grandchild, Raiden Manock; sisters: Marian Tollefson, Bagley, MN, and Sally (Dennis) Navratil, Bagley; brother, August (Sherry) Hovde, East Grand Forks, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Irene Walingford, Dorothy Tollefson, and Violet Hovde and brothers: Bernard, Leroy and Fred. Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
