Curtis, J. Holt, 78 of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the Pelican Rapids Good Samaritan Society. Curtis, son of Eddie and Thea (Strandlien) Holt, was born July 30, 1931 on his family farm in Norwegian Grove Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota where he attended country school and grew to manhood. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1950. Curtis married Mavis Sorum on November 25, 1951 in Pelican Rapids. The couple made their home on the Holt home place in Norwegian Grove Township where they farmed and raised their family. Curtis retired from farming in 2001 and continued to live on the farm. In 2003 Curtis became a resident of the Pelican Rapids Good Samaritan Society. He lived there until the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Pelican Rapids Evangelical Free Church and served on the church board. He was a past member of the Barnesville Lions Club and a 4"H leader for many years. He served on the school board for the rural district in Norwegian Grove Township and the Barnesville School Board. Curtis enjoyed hunting and loved to farm. He is survived by his wife Mavis of Pelican Rapids; two sons, Steve (Lori) Holt of rural Pelican Rapids and Mark (Diana) Holt of Kodiak, Alaska; two daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Norbie of Okanagan, Washington and Rachel (Mike) Ziebell of rural Barnesville; 18 grandchildren, Tonya Holt, Corey (Gretta) Holt, Jake (Melissa) Nelson, Bob (Melissa) Gray, Marie Norbie, Katie Norbie, David (Katie) Norbie, Sandra Norbie, Jonathan Norbie, Haleigh Norbie, Jordan Barry, Daniel Barry, Levi Barry, Jacob Barry, Noah Ziebell, Matthew Ziebell, Jonathan Ziebell, Grace Ziebell; three great-grandchildren, Caden Nelson, Jace Barry and Maison Barry; two brothers, Virgil Holt and Wallace (Marlys) Holt all of Barnesville; three sisters, Irene Johnson of Battle Lake, Minnesota, Frances Axness of Pelican Rapids and Geneva Adams of St. Paul. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Danny; three brothers, Lawrence, Eugene and Wayne; two sisters, Hazel Borg and Marion Pederson. Visitation will be Friday from 4"8 with a pray service at 7 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville. Funeral will be Saturday at 11 in Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids. Interment will be in North Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Norwegian Grove Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
