Monica Schindler, 87, died on Monday, September 30, 2013 after a short stay at the ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, MN with Father Gary LaMoine presiding. Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service at the church on Saturday. Monica P. Schindler was born on December 11, 1925 to Hermann and Emma (Knorr) Schindler in Ulm, Baden, Germany. She was baptized in Germany, and then at the age of 6 months, her family migrated to the United States. She grew to womanhood in the Barnesville area the oldest of six children. She attended country school through the 7th grade. She helped her Dad on the family farm for many years. In 1967, she started working for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Barnesville as a CNA where she worked for 28 years. After retirement, she is known throughout the community for her fresh vegetables that she raised and sold. In 2002, at the age of 76, she fulfilled her goal of receiving her GED. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church where she volunteered many hours of her time. She was a member of the Foresters, the Barnesville Garden Club, the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary at church. She helped and called Bingo. Monica taught her family how to process and can her well known delicious sauerkraut. Monica is survived by one daughter Linda Deutsch, 29 Palm, CA, three grandchildren: Denise (Charles) Alexander, Todd (Julie) Deutsch, Monica Marie,(Michael) Lieske, four great grandchildren, Shelby, Sabrina, Robert, and Dawn, one brother Leo (Anita) Schindler of Barnesville; two sisters, Marie (Robert) Boeder-Bartholomay of Enderlin, ND, and Vicky Heille of Fargo, brother in law Harvey Haagenson of Clitherall, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend and neighbor Leah Thompson and dog Chewee. Monica was preceded in death by one grandson Damian Deutsch, her parents, one brother Auggie Schindler, one sister Katherine Haagenson, one nephew Michael Schindler.
