David P. Gehrig

David P. Gehrig, 63, of Dent, Minnesota died Sunday, January 10, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit of MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Memorial Service will be Friday, January 15, 2010, at 7:00 pm in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, Minnesota with Fr. Joseph Kieselbach presiding. Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville. David, son of John and Freda (Janu) Gehrig, was born July 14, 1946 in Barnesville where he attended school and grew to manhood. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1965. He worked for the Barnesville Farmer Elevator until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in December of 1967. He served in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged in 1969. After his military service he moved to Missoula, Montana where he worked as an electrician. In 1979 he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked for the Nebraska Power and lights as a lineman. In 1994 he retired due to health reasons and moved to Star Lake near Dent, Minnesota. He lived there until the time of his death. David enjoyed woodworking and in his early years, hunting. He was an avid fisherman and often fished off the dock in front of his home. He is survived by three sisters and three brothers, Darlene (Stanley) Tucker of Bloomington, Minnesota, Louis Gehrig of rural Dent, John Gehrig of Omaha, Nebraska, Regina (Robert) Hathaway, of Yukon, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Green of Shakopee, Minnesota and Lawrence (Joan) Gehrig of rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. David is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerome and Frank; three sisters, Rosella Wagner, Delores Preller and Ruthie Gehrig.
