William J. Bill Braseth, 77 of Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday, October 15, 2010 in his home. Bill, son of William and Ida (Thorson) Braseth, was born January 25, 1933 on his familys farm near Lake Park, Minnesota. He attended school and grew to manhood in that area. After his schooling he farmed with his family until his enlistment in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge he returned to the farm near Lake Park where he continued farming and raising cattle. Bill also worked as a mechanic for American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead from 1957"1973. Bill also drove school bus for the Lake Park School District. Bill married Ruth Johnson on February 29, 1976 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Barnesville. The couple made their home in Barnesville. Bill was very handy with tools and enjoyed figuring out how things worked so he could fix them, especially televisions. He was an accomplished welder and finally excelled in the lock smith trade. Bill served the community of Barnesville and surrounding area with his skills as a master lock smith for many years. His most recent passion was computers. Bill and Ruth continued to live in Barnesville until the time of his death. Bill was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Post 153 of Barnesville. He also held memberships in the Grain Millers Union and the Lock Smith Association of America. Bill loved animals, McDonalds food and racing, especially when his step-son Paul was racing. He was an avid fan of both the Twins and the Vikings and watched a lot of American Legion Baseball in our area. Bill enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandson and their activities. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Barnesville, two step-sons, Paul (Vicki) Johnson of Barnesville and Jim (Lisa) Johnson of Baker, Minnesota; two step-grandsons, Paul Jr. (Elizabeth) Johnson of Barnesville and Dustin (Kellie) Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; one step-great grandson Thomas Johnson at home in Barnesville. He is also survived by one sister Mary Ann Nylander of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bruce and his sister, Irene Olson. Visitation: Sunday from 5:00"8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, and two hours before the funeral on Monday at the church.
