Betty Tableman

Betty Tableman, 77, of Barnesville, MN died on Monday, July 29, 2013 at ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville, MN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Colin Grangaard officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Betty Ann Sorum was born on November 6, 1935 to Joseph Norman and Eleanor Juliet (Engelson) Sorum in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. She lived in Norwegian Grove Township as a young girl and then her family moved to Barnesville. She graduated from Barnesville High School in 1953. Betty was united in marriage to Virgel Edward Tableman on July 22, 1953 in Barnesville, MN and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Shortly after marriage, Betty worked at the Record Review. They then moved to East Grand Forks for about four years before returning to Barnesville, where she has resided ever since. Betty and Gootch took over the family business and owned and operated Virgs Place for 17 years in Barnesville. This made her a perfect fit to manage the American Legion Club in Barnesville for over 20 years. Betty will be remembered as a classy dresser, whose hair and nails were perfect before she would leave the house. She loved to shop, cook, and kept a well-organized home. She was a social person who loved to be around people, enjoyed happy hour, pulling some pull tabs, and playing black jack. She had her routine of every Saturday night trips to the Fargo American Legion. For many years, Betty and her family would spend time during the summer at Lake Lizzie. Her grandchildren and the time they spent together meant the world to her. Betty is survived by her husband of 60 years, Virgel Gootch Tableman, Barnesville, two children: Todd Tableman, Fargo, ND, Teri Schepp, Barnesville, MN, two grandchildren: Matthew Schepp, St. Louis Park, MN and Cody Schepp, Fargo, ND, two sisters: Judy (Frank Jr.) Thompson, and Anita (Mike) Connelly, both of Baker, MN, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
