Jeffrey V. Johnson, 50 of Moorhead died Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Funeral service will be Thursday, at 2:00 in North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids with Pastor Curtis Tilleraas and Pastor Raymound Branstiter co-officiating. Kim Miller will serve as soloist accompanied by organist Ila Ishaug. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 " 8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, Minnesota. Interment will be Friday, at 2:00 in St. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jeff, son of John A. and Virginia (Ishaug) Johnson, was born July 4, 1960 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota where he attended school and grew to manhood. Jeff graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1978, the year he entered the U.S. Army. He served with the 82nd Airborne and was honorably discharged in 1981. He returned to this area and attended Minnesota State University Moorhead studying criminal justice. He later received his Bachelors of Arts Degree. Jeff was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and attended Officer Candidate School. In 1988 Jeff moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked for the Dallas County Juvenile Department. He continued his military career with the Texas National Guard serving as company commander at the rank of Captain. He married Leanne Mabbott on March 28, 1992 in Fort Hood, Texas. The couple made their home in Grand Prairie, Texas until 1995 when they moved to rural Barnesville. He returned to the Minnesota National Guard and served with the 2nd 136th IN, where he achieved the rank of Major before retiring. Jeff worked in Human Resources and in 2009 moved to Moorhead. Jeff was a life member of North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. He was a very active member of the Ducks Unlimited and a founding member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association in this area. Jeff was a sportsman and conversationalist, enjoying hunting and fishing. He loved to cook, travel, and was an avid reader. Jeff is survived by his mother and step-father, Virginia Virgie and Duane Brandt of rural Comstock, Minnesota; his former wife and best friend, Leanne Johnson of Fargo; one sister, Valoree (Christopher) Howard of Napa, California; one brother, John E. (Donna) Johnson of Fargo; three step-sisters, Tamara Brandt of Fargo, Paula (John) Haugrud of Barnesville, and Stacey (Mick) Foss of Vergus, Minnesota; two nephews, Ben Ouren of Breckenridge, Colorado, and Maycoll Johnson of Fargo; two nieces, Catherine Johnson of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Sara Johnson of Moorhead.
