Verne Arthur Leach, 86, Glyndon, MN died February 4, 2009, suddenly at home. He had been battling multiple myeloma. Verne was born December 3, 1922 in rural Downer, MN to Arthur Leach and Christie (Lebeda). He attended country school in rural Downer. He farmed with his parents until leaving for military service. He proudly served with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division in the Philippines during WWII and the occupation of Japan. Upon returning from Japan, he farmed and drove gravel truck. On December 1, 1951, Verne was united in marriage to Evelyn Gantzer at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Moorhead. In 57 years of marriage Verne and Evelyn raised six children. They farmed near Downer. In 1965 he started as a rural letter carrier out of Glyndon. Upon retirement from the post office in 1985, he continued living on the farm assisting his son Terry with operation of the farm. In retirement, Verne enjoyed spending time with his children, grand children, great grand children, watching Fox News and taking care of his yard with his little diesel tractor. Verne is survived by his wife, Evelyn; four sons and two daughters; Joseph (Sandy), Glyndon; Nancy (Bob) Tofsrud, Grand Junction, CO; David (Muriel), Glyndon; Terry, Glyndon; Marcia (Steve) Belau, Rochester, MN; Chris, Audubon, MN; nine grand children; John (Judy) Leach, Kimball, MN; Michelle (Andrew) Pierce, Sioux Falls, SD; Aaron and Brandon Tofsrud both Grand Junction, Co; Christina Tofsrud, Denver, CO; James Leach, Moorhead; Kristin (Mike) Pennie, Moorhead; Alec Belau, Rochester, MN; five great grandchildren; Thaddeus, Tainika, Raaheem, LaMarquita, Wilder; eight brothers and six sisters; Duane (Marcella), Dilworth; Don (Monna Lou), Glyndon; Irvin (Delores), Glyndon; Elthea Lass, Moorhead; Mavis (Richard) Wang, Glyndon; Denis (Irene), Moorhead; Diane Pickett, Dilworth; Ardelle (Harold) Brandt, Moorhead; Larroll (Carol), Butte, MT; Doreen (Ronald) Wang, Glyndon; Darwin (Marlys), Dilworth; Bonnie Leach, Fargo; Ricky, Moorhead; Curt (Kris), Audubon, MN. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Christie and Art and grandson Jesse. Visitation: There will be a visitation on Sunday, February 8, in Dobmeier funeral home starting at 5 followed by a prayer service at 7 in the funeral home. Funeral Service: The funeral will be Monday, February 9, in St. Josephs Catholic Church, Moorhead, starting at 11 with a visitation 1 hour prior to the funeral in the church.
