John W. Lyman, age 80, of Barnesville, Minnesota died Monday, April 23, 2012 at the McIntosh Senior Living Center in McIntosh, Minnesota. John W. Lyman was born November 7, 1931 in McHenry County, North Dakota the son of John and Mathilda (Flaten) Lyman. He graduated from Willow City High School and then farmed there for a year before serving in the United States Air Force for four years. On March 26, 1955, John was united in marriage to Delene Ellenson at Horace, North Dakota. They farmed at Willow City, North Dakota for five years before moving to the Fargo area, where John worked as a radar technician for the Air National Guard for the next twenty six years. During many of those years they lived on a farm east of Barnesville where they also farmed. In 2005 they moved into Barnesville. John was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and also served as a Humboldt Township Supervisor for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and was very active with the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Delene of Barnesville, MN; children: Steven of Aurora, CO, Nancy (Paul) Schenck of Hawley, MN, Dan (Karen) Lyman of Barnesville, MN, Lisa (Steven) Emery of Northfield, MN and Debra (John) Toddie of West Fargo, ND; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; sister, Verna (Harlan) Ellenson of Harwood, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mae Zorn. Memorial Service: Will be 11:00 am, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to services in the church.
