Alice M. Doran

January 30, 1918 — April 16, 2010

Alice M. Doran, 92 of Wahpeton, North Dakota formerly Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday, in The Leach Home in Wahpeton. Alice, daughter of Albert and Mabel (Skogen) Huseby, was born January 30, 1918 in rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Pelican Lake area southeast of Detroit Lakes. Alice married Warren R. Doran on September 8, 1936 in Alexandria, Minnesota. The couple made their home near Fair Hills Resort where Warren was employed. They moved into Detroit Lakes in 1941. From there they moved to Audubon and then out to her grandfathers house across from Fair Hills Resort. Alice stayed busy in the summer months by cleaning cottages and taking in wash for several of the residents along the lake. For the next few years they lived in the Barnesville, Comstock and Joplin, Missouri areas before settling into Barnesville in 1957. Over they years, Alice gave a home to and cared for more than 30 foster children. Warren died in 1998. Alice continued to live in Barnesville until 2006 when she moved to Wahpeton. In April of 2009 she became a resident of The Leach Home where she lived until the time of her death. Alice was a long standing member of the Assembly of God Church in Barnesville where she served as organist, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She often drove her two aunts, Hilda Bekkerus and Gladys Mayfield to Fargo to rummage sales looking for bargains, most times making a day of it. Alice was very much a care giver, doing her Aunt Hildas hair and making sure when her mom, dad and sister, Clarice went to the nursing home their hair always looked nice. When her sister had to be fed, she was there at every meal and fed her. When her son Don was in the service in Germany she wrote him a letter every day until he came home. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Bauer of Barnesville; three sons, Vernon (Blanch) Doran of New Brighton, Minnesota, Ardon (Ruth) Doran of Wahpeton and Don (Deb) Doran of Breckenridge; nine grandchildren, Phillip (Pam) Doran of Wyoming, Minnesota, Brian Doran also of Wyoming, Dawn Ann Weippert of New Brighton, Michael R.
