Agnes C. Aakre, age 94, a resident of Hawley, MN died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Rollag Lutheran Church in rural Rollag. Visitation will be held 1-2:30 PM, Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Rollag Lutheran Church in Rollag. Burial will be at Rollag Lutheran Cemetery. Agnes Clenora was born on May 19, 1920, in Tansem Township the daughter of George E. and Elsie Charlotte (Erickson) Haugrud. She was baptized and confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church. She attended school at District #77 in Tansem Township and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1938. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College. Agnes taught school for three years in District #109 of Parke Township, two years in District #3 and also District #14. On July 14, 1942 she married James Aakre at Rollag Lutheran Church. In June of 1943 Agnes joined him in Shreveport, Louisiana where they made their home until 1945 when they returned to rural Rollag where they farmed with her father and brothers. In 1947 they purchased the dairy and grain farm of her grandparents where they resided for many years. James died on November 21, 2007. In 2009 Agnes entered the Hawley Senior Living. She was a life-long active member of Rollag Lutheran Church. Agnes was the accompanist for the Rollag male quartet (organized in 1949) which James sang for. In past years she sang for Hawley Community Choir and the We Fest Gospel Choir. Her special interests include music, reading, writing, sewing, crossword puzzles, flowers, houseplants, and also encouraging her family and youth. Agnes also attended many church conventions with her husband, James. Agnes is survived by her daughter Karen (Richard) Haarstad of Anoka, MN; seven sons: Paul (Janet) of Crookston, James "Mark" (Karen) of Underwood, Leif (Cheryl) of Stephen, Daniel (Kitt) of Madison, Jon (Jana) or rural Rollag, Kurt (Denise) of Karlstad and Joel (Darcy) of Omaha, Nebraska; 31 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Haugrud of Camarillo, California; sister-in-law Gladys Haugrud; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband James; granddaughters: Ashley Aakre and Tamara Aakre Jerde; brothers: Harvey (Fern) Haugrud and Erwin Haugrud; sister-in-law Ruby (Anderson) Haugrud.
