Deloris M Haugrud

Deloris Haugrud, age 76, a resident of Barnesville died on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Clayco Care Center in Barnesville. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 31 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Barnesville, MN with Pastor Colin Grangaard officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Dobmeier Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Deloris Mae was born April 16, 1938 to Albert and Clara (Peterson) Erickson near Pelican Rapids, MN. She grew up the youngest in a family of 10 children. After graduating from high school she moved to St. Paul to attend beauty school and help her widowed sister raise her young family. After completing beauty school, she worked in Pelican Rapids as a beautician until starting her family. Deloris married Fred Haugrud on June 10, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. Following their wedding, they moved to rural Rothsay until moving to Barnesville in 1965. At a young age, Deloris was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In spite of the physical challenges, she was a devoted wife and raised her three children. She loved being a grandmother to her 7 grandchildren. She enjoyed their visits and being able on occasion to attend a concert or sporting event. Deloris will be remembered for the positive way she faced a life with physical limitations and for her spirit which has now been set free to dance in the heavens. Deloris' love of life and sense of humor were an inspiration to those who knew her. She enjoyed any opportunity to gather with family or friends. She cherished the birthday parties held in her honor and attended by many in the community. Deloris enjoyed fancy jewelry and any occasion to get dressed up. She was known for her sweet tooth and was always ready for a treat even after being full from her meal. Deloris was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville where she especially enjoyed attending the Christmas Eve service and singing Christmas hymns. In 2001, Deloris became a resident of the Barnesville ClayCo nursing home where she made more friendships and the staff became her second family. Deloris is survived by her husband Fred; her children: Kari (Jeff) Ferris of Fargo, ND, Kevin (Annette) Haugrud of Detroit Lakes, MN and Kelly (Cindy) Haugrud of Rothsay, MN; 7 grandchildren: Chase (Katie) Ferris, Kylee (Scott) Brightside, Colten Ferris, Connor Haugrud, Heidi Dalve, Brandon Haugrud, Matthew Haugrud; and 4 brothers: Amos Erickson of Glasgow, MT, Don Erickson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Randy (Pat) Erickson of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Earnest (Shirley) Erickson of Cottage Grove, MN.. She is preceded in death by her parents Albert P. and Clara (Peterson) Erickson; 2 brothers: Art and Clifford Erickson; and 3 sisters: Alice Cobb, Clarice Peterson, and Myrna Runningen. The family would like to thank all who shared their kindness and friendship with Deloris. A very special thank you to the staff of ClayCo who provided her with so much more than physical assistance; they provided her a place she called home for more than the last decade of her life.
