Kenneth S Severson

Kenneth Steven Severson, 83, of Mesa, AZ passed away June 28, 2014. He was born January 20, 1931 in Barnesville, MN to Knute and Mary Severson and attended school in Barnesville. On June 30, 1949, he was married to Beverly Quam of Barnesville, MN. Together they had four children: Pam (deceased), Debra (Richard Miske) of Orange City, IA; Steven (Debra) of Casa Grande, AZ; and Mark (Debbie Jo) of Mesa, AZ. During his life, Kenneth was a grain elevator operator for over 40 years in Minnesota and North Dakota. Later he worked as a grain inspector at the Grain Exchange in Minneapolis. Upon retiring, he moved to Mesa, AZ where he worked as a security guard for Val Vista Village Retirement Community for several years until he retired for a second time to enjoy his time playing cards. Kenneth could always be seen with a smile on his face and a story to tell. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his three children and former wife. Also surviving are his five grandchildren: Stephanie (Christopher) Whonsetler of Indianapolis, IN; Kevin Severson of Casa Grande; and Bailey, Cory, and Sydney Severson of Mesa, AZ. There is also a special niece and her husband Pat (Kay) Fisher who looked over him at Val Vista Village, AZ. In addition are two sisters: Elaine Lofgren and Joyce Gibertson, of Barnesville, MN. He also has many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela; his parents Knute and Mary; one brother James; and eight sisters: Marge, Lela, Florence, Lucille, Delores, Clarys, Mary Beth, Audrey and Janita. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN on Sat. Sept. 20th at 2:00PM. Dessert and coffee to be served following the service. His body will be buried prior in the Hawley Cemetery. Memorials will be distributed among Kenny's favorite charities.
