William Kahler, 87, died on Monday, October 27, 2014 with his loving family at his side at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, October 31, 2014 at Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville, MN with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW Color Guard of Barnesville. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service. William Ernest Kahler was born on March 4, 1927 to Ernest and Lillian (Stender) Kahler on the family farm in Alliance Township, Clay County, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1945. He served his country in the Army from 1946-1947. William was united in marriage to Rosemary Cossette on June 21, 1955 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in rural Horace, ND. William and Rosemary made their home on the Kahler family farm near Barnesville, MN. Farming was Willie's life and he continued the family tradition until retiring in 1978. He also worked construction with several carpenters including: Kenny Maesse, William Collins, and Delbert Peterson. For many years, Willie also worked at the Harvest States Elevator in Baker. William was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion in Barnesville. Willie had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share. In his younger years, he played softball and liked fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and playing cards including; pinnochle, whist, and bridge. He enjoyed mornings at the Eagle Café with the "Table of Wisdom." He is survived by five children: Pauline (Gary Ottesen) Kahler, West Fargo, ND, Roger (Karen) Kahler, Fargo, ND, Debra (Gary) Fuglesten, Buxton, ND, Rodney Kahler, Fargo and Cheryl (Scott Lein) Kahler, Dilworth, MN; six grandchildren: Daniel (Jennifer) Fuglesten, Tara Fuglesten, Ashley Ottesen, Amy (Nathan) Geist, Nicole Kahler, and Shawn Kahler; seven great grandchildren: Wyatt Kelley, Shayla Kelley, Sabrina Kelley, Emersyn Fuglesten, Josephyne Fuglesten, Brooklyn Geist, and Raelyn Geist; one sister Marion Jacobs, Twin Cities, MN; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Leo (Amy) Cossette, Arlene (Dennis) Jensen, Kathleen (Orvin) Helgeson and Harvey Sauvageau; and many nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary in 2004; his parents; one brother John Kahler; daughter-in-law Beverly; brothers-in-law: George Jacobs and Jerome (Charlotte) Cossette; and sister-in-law Teresa Sauvageau.
