Louis Gehrig, 74, of Barnesville, MN died Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Golden Manor Assisted Living in Barnesville. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 PM, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Dobmeier Funeral Home with Reverend Lauryl Ivers officiating. Visitation will be held from Noon to 5:30 PM, Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Louis Alfred Gehrig was born on December 31, 1939, during a blizzard, to John and Wilfreda (Janu) Gehrig on a farmstead outside of Barnesville. He moved from the country into town in Barnesville. He attended Catholic School through the 8th grade and then graduated from Barnesville High School in 1957. Following high school, Louis entered the US Navy, serving his country for three years. He worked on airplanes for the Navy. He went on to Omaha, Nebraska to help his uncle run and care for a golf course for a time. He then returned to Barnesville. He was united in marriage to Donna "Tiny" Hines and they were married on June 27, 1964. Louis worked at the Barnesville Elevator for many years. After that, he worked at Interstate Sunflower and then retired from Dahlgren's Seed in 2002. Louis was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always had a faithful companion and his breed was springer spaniels. He was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and also liked to cook, can, and enjoyed smoking and pickling fish. He liked to play pinochle and could be counted on for many stories and jokes. He is survived by four children: Debra (Michael) DeMinck, Fargo, Denis Gehrig, Hendrum, MN, Dean Gehrig, Barnesville, and Dawn (Steven) Montplaisir, Barnesville; seven grandchildren: Ashley (fiancé Joel Brettingen) DeMinck, Emily DeMinck, Molly DeMinck, Angela Gehrig, Nicole (Seth) Stone, Jakob Gehrig and Bethany (Eddy) Asche; two great grandchildren: Tayler and Jaxon Stone; two brothers: John of Omaha, NB and Lawrence of Pelican Rapids, MN; three sisters: Darlene (Stanley) Tucker, Bloomington, MN, Regina (Robert) Hathaway, Yukon, OK and Elizabeth Green, Shakopee, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Dana; three brothers: Jerome, Frank and David; three sisters: Rosella Wagner, Deloris Preller and Ruth Gehrig. Louis Gehrig Funeral Bulletin
