Alverna Hoppe

Alverna Hoppe, 87, died on Monday, November 10, 2014, at ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, MN with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, rural Sabin, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Alverna Frances Frisch was born on September 28, 1927, to Peter and Frances (Doll) Frisch in Graceville, MN. At age seven her family moved to Sabin, MN. She attended grade school in Sabin and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1946. She married Kenneth Hoppe on February 12, 1949, at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Sabin, MN. The couple moved to rural Barnesville, MN in Wilkin County, where they farmed and raised their two daughters. Alverna enjoyed the farm life, along with cooking and canning, spending summers at Crystal-Lida Lake, dancing, playing cards, and mostly spending time with her family and friends. In 1995, Kenneth and Alverna sold their farm and moved into Barnesville, MN. Alverna was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville, St. Ann's Guild, Atherton Homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, Barnesville. Alverna entered the Barnesville Good Samaritan on November 10, 2004, that later became ClayCo Care Center. Kenneth passed away on December 7, 2006. She is survived by her two daughters: Mary (Dale) Christensen, Fargo, ND, Karen Thompson, Moorhead, MN, three grandchildren: Dean Runsvold, Fargo, ND, Jan Thompson (Thad Thorsness), Hawley, MN, David (Kari) Runsvold, West Fargo, ND, three great grandchildren: Katelyn Runsvold, Fargo, ND, Jenner Runsvold, and Jace Runsvold, West Fargo, ND, brother in law and sister in law: Leslie and Darlene Hoppe, Barnesville, MN, special nieces and nephews: Peter Frisch, Laurie Polka, Karl Hoppe, Steve Hoppe, Mark Hoppe, Jayne Lien, and Susan McGough. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Fran Frisch, husband Kenneth, grandson Jamie Thompson on 2/17/2007, brothers Milan (Betty) Frisch and Derald (Marjorie) Frisch, brother and sisters in law Neal Hoppe, Earl (Iris) Hoppe, and Virginia Hoppe.
