He attended school through the 8th grade at District 18. In 1945, Stanley was drafted into the Army and attended basic training at Fort Sill, OK. He received his honorable discharge and returned home to help his dad farm. On June 17, 1951, he married Marlys Joy Logan at Our Savior's Church in Moorhead. They bought the Haberle farm and later the Charles Kluck farm east of Downer. He was a "Farmer in the Dell" with some grain and livestock. He milked cows, had sheep, geese, and lots of pigs and chickens, and sold lots of eggs. In 1960, he made a rear-end loader out of an Allis Chalmers and it was a first of kind. Stanley was proud of it and used it daily. He was a member of Gran Church and Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on the Cenex Board. In 1996, Larry bought the farm and Stanley and Marlys moved to Barnesville. Stanley was very handy, whether it be a building, improvising, or fixing things that broke down. He made many things and Marlys painted them. Stanley and Marlys were always a team, working together to get things done.
