Walter Jerger, 84, of Rothsay, MN, died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral Services will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville, MN with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, rural Downer, MN. Visitation is Sunday from 1-3 p.m. with a prayer service at 2 pm at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, and continuing one hour before the funeral on Monday. Walter Jerger, 84 went to meet his Lord on January 29, 2015. Walter was born June 21, 1930 in Batesland, SD to Jacob and Amelia (Krug) Jerger. His family moved to the Barnesville area where he attended country school in Atherton Township and went on to Morris Ag College in Morris MN. He returned to farm near Rothsay, MN for 25 plus years. He married Mavis Peake in Moorhead, MN in 1952 and he has lived on their farmstead until his death. He retired from farming and went on to a sales position with Swedberg Equipment in West Fargo, still staying connected to the farming industry. He was a bartender at the Galaxie Supper Club for several years. He went on to become a driver for Clay County Rural Transit where he enjoyed meeting and helping clients assist them in their travel needs. He retired from Clay County Rural Transit after 10 years of service. Walter had a love of farming and living in the country. In 1970 he was honored with the County Kings award in Wilkin County. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him joy and pride. He also had a good companion in his dog Rocky. He is survived by the love of his life for 62 years Mavis; his 11 children: Rose Rodacker, Casselton; Ron (Deb) Jerger, Barnesville, MN; Al (Nancy) Jerger, Rothsay, MN; Susie (Ron) Jordan, Fargo, ND; Annette (Stacey) Jerger; Sandy (Ron) Desmarais, Fargo, ND; Jon (Roxanne) Jerger, Fargo, ND; Sharri (Todd) Drussell, Hawley, MN; Jackie (Brian) Nelson; Jay Thompson, Fargo, ND, and Gene (Vickie) Thompson, Kindred, ND; 32 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; one brother Manual (Glen) Jerger, Moorhead, MN; and 3 sisters: Martha Robinson, San Diego, CA; Carol Denby Vacaville, CA; and Bertha Krieden, Sand Pointe, ID. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Amelia Jerger; father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Rose Peake; sons-in-law Dan Stetz and Royce Rodacker; 3 sisters: Kay McCoy, Rose Davis and Ruth Creese, and 3 brothers: Paul, Jacob and Alex Jerger.
