Joseph Neilen Gilbertson

Joe Gilbertson, 79, of Barnesville, MN, died on Monday, February 2, 2015 in Barnesville. A time of remembrance and gathering will be Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 11AM - 4PM, at the Romantic Moon Events Center, 158 80th ST S, Glyndon, MN with a meal served at noon. Everyone is welcome! Joseph Neilen Gilbertson was born on June 12, 1935 to Carl John and Jennie (Herseth) Gilbertson in Milton, ND. Joe grew up near Milton, ND and attended school there. He served his country in the US Navy from 1952-1955. In 1956, Joe began working at the Fairmont Creamery. Joe married Bonnie Lou Iverson on April 14, 1957. In 1961 he worked for Peterson Turkey Farms, near Howick, MN. Joe worked for Texgas and Suburban Propane in Barnesville, beginning in 1974. He worked there for many years, until his retirement. Joe continued to help many in the Barnesville community with their furnace and propane issues even after his retirement. He also spent considerable time with his son helping with his "creative" projects and trying to keep him from getting too deep into trouble (together they were not that successful staying out of trouble). He also spent considerable effort and time trying to teach Ray Kemper how to hunt and fish. Again, we are not sure of his success on that. Joe is survived by his wife Bonnie; his 4 children: Barb (Gary) Higgens of St. Cloud, FL; Vern Gilbertson of Norfolk, VA; Roy (Teresa) Gilbertson of Glyndon, MN; and Jean Gilbertson of Granite Falls, MN; 8 grandchildren: James (Sheena) Gilbertson; Laura Kate Gilbertson; Lindsay (Clinton) Thornton; Jason (Kristen) Gilbertson; Kyle Gilbertson (fiancé Alyssa); Shanna (Sam) Anderson; Monica Krueger; and Nikki (Nate) Wentworth. His also survived by 6 great-grandchildren: Parker and Alora; Seth and Nathan; Maxwell and Jackson; a sister-in-law Joyce Gilbertson and several nephews. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Gordon and Harvey.
