Peggy Butenhoff, 68, of Comstock, MN passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Peggy Jean Butenhoff was born on April 18, 1947 to Melvin and DeLores (Carlson) Butenhoff in Moorhead, MN. She grew up in Comstock, attended school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1965. She then attended Moorhead State University and earned a degree in music. She taught K-8 music at the Ojibwa Indian School in Belcourt, ND for 8 years. She returned home and worked as postmaster in Comstock for almost 25 years before retiring. During those years she served as secretary and treasurer for the National League of Postmasters. Throughout Peggy’s life she was a tutor, mentor, friend and public servant. For a few years, Peggy supplied music on both piano and organ for the church, Bible school and Sunday school. She was the church’s full time organist for 8 years. She was active in the community; being the Lion’s Club President, and was instrumental in starting an area wide community choir. She served as director of the Cantata Choir for 8 years; which this last Easter celebrated its 30th anniversary. Peggy was also treasurer and coordinator of the Comstock Community Center. Peggy loved spending her free time at her parent’s lake home; where she did a lot of fishing with her dad. The family was always playing cards and board games. With her mom at the accordion, and Peggy at the piano; wonderful music was made. Peggy is survived by her uncle’s Floyd (Dorothy) Butenhoff, Barnesville; George Butenhoff, Fairfield, MT; Loren (Virginia) Carlson, Comstock; Goddaughter Shelli Lowrance, Fargo; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Mel and DeLores; and her grandparents. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 18 at Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock, MN with Rev. Jill Steichen officiating. Visitation will be held 4-6 PM, with a 6 PM prayer service on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
