Leslie “Bud” Hoppe, 92, of Barnesville, MN died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the ValleyCare and Rehab in Barnesville.    Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN with Pastor Brett Hartwig officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, rural Sabin, MN.  Visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Monday, April 18, 2016, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Leslie Hoppe was born on June 5, 1923, to Carl and Lena (Johnk) Hoppe at the family farm near Comstock, MN. At the age of five, Leslie and his three brothers lost their mother to tuberculosis.  A woman by the name of Hattie Disney came in to help out and ended up becoming their foster mother.  Leslie attended Koester Country School in Clay County, through the 8th grade and then helped his dad and brothers on the farm.  On July 3, 1958, Leslie married Virginia Bursick in Sioux City, IA.  They lived in rural Sabin, MN where he farmed his entire life with his brothers Earl & Neal Hoppe.  They raised potatoes, wheat, soybeans, and corn.  Leslie retired in 1987.  Virginia passed away August 21, 1999.  On May 29, 2001 Leslie married Darlene (Quinnild) Ladehoff at the Stave Norwegian Church in Moorhead.  They lived in rural Sabin during the summer, and wintered in Phoenix, AZ.  In August of 2001, The Hoppe Brothers were named Grand Marshall’s for the annual Potato Days Festival in Barnesville, MN.  Leslie enjoyed hunting, playing a good game of pinochle, the country life, and getting together with his family and friends.  Leslie and Darlene moved into the Golden Manor Assisted Living in Barnesville in July of 2013.  On July 2, 2015, Leslie moved to the ValleyCare and Rehab Center in Barnesville to be with his wife Darlene, who had moved two months earlier.  Bud is survived by his wife Darlene of Barnesville; nieces and nephews: Mary (Dale) Christensen; Karen Thompson; Karl Hoppe; Steven (Tammy) Hoppe; Mark Hoppe and Susan (Kevin) McGough; Paul (Carol) Quinnild; James (Stephanie) Quinnild; Margaret (Roger) Lee; Dennis (Mona) Hoppe; Lois (Don) Williams and Joyce (Reese) Cottrell; stepson Rodney Bursick;  step grandsons: Dr. Brian Bursick and Darrin Bursick;  several great nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-law Harold & Angie Quinnild.     He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Hoppe; his parents; three brothers: Kenneth (Alverna); Neal; and Earl (Iris) Hoppe; brother and sister-in-law: Vern & Pearl Quinnild; Vivian (Frank) Hoppe; nieces Jayne Lien and Betty Hoppe; and great nephew Jamie Thompson.
