Dean Hedland, 61, of Rollag, MN died on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN with Rev. Jim Greene officiating. Dean Thomas Hedland was born on September 2, 1954 to Hubert Donald and Yvonne (Olsgaard) Hedland in Fargo, ND. He grew up most of his years in Hatton, ND, where he attended school and graduated in 1972. He started at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton and then transferred to Mayville State University. He was united in marriage to DeAnn Jean Peterson on August 6, 1977 at Zoar Lutheran in Hatton, ND. In 1980, Dean and his brother were owners of Hedland Oil and Service. In 1984, he began working at Lystad Pest Control where he continued to work, serving as area manager from 1999 until 2010, until retiring from Ecolab in 2014. Through his life Dean enjoyed: baseball, golfing, and channel surfing. Dean’s love of family and children gave him so much joy and happiness. He loved living in the country; spending time outside and mowing acres of lawn. He fought cancer 28 years prior in his life and beat it until this past February. Dean liked belonging to the Western MN Steam Threshers Reunion and spending time there. He is survived by his wife DeAnn, Rollag, MN; one daughter Ami (Joseph) Acker, Coon Rapids, MN; one son Dan (Stephanie) Hedland, Barnesville, MN; five grandchildren: Adeline and Cora Acker and Haydyn, Ryan and Ethyn Hedland; sister-in-law Laurel Hedland; mother-in-law Dorene Peterson; sister-in-law Gayle Dunn; and brother-in-law David (DeAnna) Peterson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Yvonne (Hedland) Schiffner; one brother David Hedland; step-father Henry Schiffner; and father-in-law Richard Peterson.
