Roger Foss

Roger Foss, 72, died at his home in Barnesville, under the care of Lakeland Hospice and his loving family, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016.     Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, November 21, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Leach officiating.  Burial of his cremains will be held in First Lutheran Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.  Military honors will be provided by the Barnesville American Legion and VFW Post Honor Guard.     Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20th from 5-8 PM, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday. Roger A. Foss, the son of Esten A. Foss and Adeline B. (Brevig) Foss, was born on June 2, 1944 in St. Paul, MN. Roger was about 3 years of age when he moved with his family to Fergus Falls. He was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He was a hard worker, having his first real job delivering papers while in the 5th grade. During summer break, he would go to Starbuck, MN to work for his grandpa and uncle on the farm. Roger attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated with the Class of 1962. After graduation, he went to Moorhead State University for a year. Roger was in the Air Force from 1964-1968. At this time, he was stationed at Biloxi, MS; Omaha, NE; and King Salmon, AK; where he repaired computers. When he was discharged from the Air Force, he went to the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN. On August 2, 1969, Roger married Diane Vallevand, and they lived in Minneapolis, MN. Together they had five children: Pam, Cheri, Kirk, Amanda, and Nick. Roger worked at Arco Metal and also at Van Dale Fleming, doing accounting; he was then transferred to Iowa. He later worked for Mobility Tote and Lennex Industries before moving back to Minnesota. He worked for Trim All and Service Master. Roger also worked in Barnesville at Cenex and cleaned at the Eagle Café in the evenings. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Norman; a son Kirk in 2000; and a grandson Angel Pop in 2015. Roger is survived by his children: Pam (Jeff) Maier of Barnesville, MN; Cheri Foss of Fergus Falls, MN; Amanda (Alex) Pop of Becker, MN; and Nick (Jenna Nygaard) of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren: Jayde Foss of Fargo, ND; Levi Foss and Barrett Dilbeck of Fergus Falls; Kirk Foss of Dilworth, MN; Adrian Pop and Aevah Pop of Becker, MN; and Brooklyn Nygaard and Beckett Foss of Fergus Falls, MN. He is also survived by his soulmate of 10 years, Lynn Julsrud of Barnesville, MN, along with her son Jerret (Sarah) Julsrud and granddaughter Addison of Glyndon, MN; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his poker family.
