Joyce Ferris

Joyce Mae Ferris, 87, of Barnesville, MN passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Eventide in Fargo, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville with Father Gary LaMoine presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville.  Visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Monday, February 20, 2017, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Joyce Mae Wilkinson was born on December 14, 1929, to Thomas and Agnes (Lenz) Wilkinson. She grew up in Downer, MN graduating from Barnesville High School in 1948.  Joyce married Jim Ferris on November 9, 1950 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville.  In 1951, Jim was drafted into the Army and while he was in basic training Joyce lived in Arkansas and Texas to be near him; moving back to the Downer/Barnesville area when Jim was sent overseas to Korea.  In 1954, the couple moved to the Ferris family farm near Baker where they raised their sons.  In April of 2016, Joyce required nursing home care where she spent the remainder of her days.  Joyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially time spent with her grandchildren and at holiday gatherings.  She was a lifetime member of the Assumption Catholic Church and served on the Ladies Guild.  Along with her husband Jim, she delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, canning and baking, with her homemade dinner rolls being a family favorite. Joyce enjoyed playing card games with anyone that was around, solitaire if no one else would play.  She was a member of the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary.  For many years she bowled on the ladies league in Barnesville; enjoyed playing the penny and nickel slot machines at just about every casino in MN; enjoyed putting puzzles together, and was a loyal Twins fan. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Jim, Barnesville, MN; two sons Jim (Jane) Ferris of Lakeville, MN and Jeff (Kari) Ferris of Fargo, ND; grandchildren Ashley (Steve) Klis, Chase (Katie) Ferris, Joshua Ferris, Kylee (Scott) Brightside,  Jenna (Joe) Owen, Colten Ferris;  great-grandson Riley Klis;  brothers-in-law Jerry Ferris , Donnie Griffin and Cliff Anderson; sisters-in-law Linda Ferris and Margie Hanson and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.   Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Agnes Wilkinson and her sister Eileen Anderson. <img style="border: 10px outset silver; width: 220px;" src=
