Charles “Charlie” Stender, 82, of Barnesville, MN, formerly of Pelican Rapids, MN died on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with Pastor Chris Leach officiating. Burial will follow in St. Leonard’s Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the memorial service. Charles Julius Stender was born on August 22, 1934 on the family farm near Dent, MN to Charles George and Mathilda “Tillie” (Trick) Stender. He grew up on a farm near Dent, MN where he attended school. At the age of 10, they moved to a farm near Elizabeth, MN. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Hermeling on June 12, 1962 in Breckenridge, MN. They made their home in rural Pelican Rapids for many years. For almost 40 years, Charles worked for the Velo Turkey Farms near Rothsay, MN. All of Charlie’s life, he had large gardens. Charlie shared his produce with friends and family all over the area. He enjoyed many years of fishing at a childhood favorite of Sunfish Lake near Dent. In the early years, Charlie didn’t like to miss the Monday Night Auction Sales in Elizabeth which helped him collect a lot of junk. Charlie is survived by two daughters: Karen (Dan) Lyman and Jan Stender, both of Barnesville; 4 grandchildren: Daniel, David, Caitlin, and Emma Lyman; four siblings: Joyce Uhlig, Fergus Falls; Kenneth (Diana) Stender, Fergus Falls; Betty (Jerome) Halderson, Duluth, MN; Clem (Betty) Stender, Albert Lea, MN; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Stender; son Wayne Stender; his parents; a brother Lloyd Stender; and 5 sisters: Margaret Laugen, Charlotte Johnson, Gladys Elberling, Lila Rosenow and Carolyn Nord.
