Dorothy Butenhoff

January 27, 1925 — December 21, 2018

Dorothy Mae Butenhoff, 93, of Barnesville, MN passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock, MN, with Pastor Jill Steichen, officiating. Burial will follow at the Comstock Lutheran Cemetery, Comstock.

Visitation is Wednesday at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, MN from 5-8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.

Dorothy Mae Taasaas was born January 27, 1925, to Olaf and Ruth (Carlson) Taasaas. She was born at her parent’s farm near Comstock, MN. Dorothy attended school at Comstock, graduating in 1942. During the war there was a teacher shortage, prompting Dorothy to attend Moorhead State Teacher’s College for 2 years. District 72, Koester School, was Dorothy’s first job, she then taught in the Primary Room at Comstock.

On November 23, 1946, Dorothy married Floyd Butenhoff at the Comstock ELC Church. They farmed east of Comstock and raised 4 children: James (Jacklyn) of Ames, Iowa, Ruth (Andrew) Kava of Barnesville, Paul of Erhard, MN and Arlene, who is now deceased, (Mitchell) Gurns of Minneapolis, MN.

Dorothy enjoyed family history, piano, in which she gave piano lessons, gardening and reading. She was a lifelong member of Comstock ELC Church, and taught Sunday school there. Dorothy was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Lydia Circle and was the church organist. Her busy life also included being a 4-H Leader in the AOK Club at Baker, MN.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Floyd; her children, James and Ruth and their spouses, and Paul; 1 brother, Carl (Sharon) Taasaas; 7 grandchildren: Jamie (Jennifer) Butenhoff, Jolene (Steve) Lowe, Jena (Jaimeson) Coons, Amy Kava, Daniel (Teri) Kava, Emily (Josh) Holmes and Dillon (Tara) Butenhoff. Eight great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, also survive Dorothy.

Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; her daughter Arlene; a sister and brother-in-law, Virgil and Beverly Olson, and 1 brother, Melvin Taasaas.
