DuWayne Hines, a man who played his cards right in life and left a lasting impact on all who knew him passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Valley Care & Rehab in Barnesville, MN.
Born on May 19, 1934, to Wayne & Martha (Holte) Hines, in Detroit Lakes, DuWayne Warner Hines grew up in Barnesville, Minnesota, a town he proudly called home. He attended Barnesville High School where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. He then joined the army and was stationed in Germany from 1954-1957. He served with the values of strength, dedication, and a quiet, steady presence that spoke volumes.
DuWayne married Darlene Mae Braton on October 25, 1970, at St. James UCC in Barnesville, MN. They met at The Traveler’s Lodge in Barnesville where with a twinkle in his eye and a love for the dance floor, DuWayne asked his beloved wife Darlene for a dance, igniting a partnership that lasted a lifetime.
His skilled hands and warm heart led him to a 46-year career as a plumber, spending 35 years at Peterson Plumbing and then 11 years at Moorhead Plumbing. He retired at the age of 69.
DuWayne cherished simple pleasures like watching his grandchildren’s' sports activities, taking on projects with his children, and tending to the great outdoors. He also enjoyed a good game of Texas Hold’em Poker and had the privilege of playing in a tournament in Las Vegas, NV.
DuWayne was also a member of both the Barnesville American Legion Post #153 and the Barnesville VFW Post #428.
DuWayne is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Hines; children: Bruce Wheelright, Darrel (Grace) Wheelright, Craig Wheelright, Mary (Craig LaBelle) Wheelright, Kevin (Kim) Hines, Tom (Heidi) Hines; grandchildren: Will, Sarah, Matthew, Jackie, Jamie, Tyler (Taylor), Louise, Nick, Wayne, Michelle, Jana, Kodey, Kiara, Ashton, Brittney, Braedon, Ian, Chase, TJ, Grady, Brock, Jackson, and Logan; great-grandchildren: Parker, Riley, Alec, Madison, Glori, Kenzie, Scarlett, Nova, Lilly, Landen, Lisa, Joey, Ryan, Ty, Kaylee, Gwen, Ele, Avy, and Holden; brother Glen (Jane) Hines, and many nieces and nephews.
