Floyd Butenhoff, 96, of Barnesville, MN, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Eventide on Eighth, in Moorhead, MN.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024, with visitation one hour prior at Comstock Lutheran Church in Comstock, MN, with Reverend Jill Steichen presiding.
Floyd Edward Butenhoff was born Jan 26, 1928, to Carl and Mathilda (Riedel) Butenhoff on his parents’ farm near Baker, MN. He attended Country School (114W and 119). He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1945. He married Dorothy Taasaas on November 23, 1946, and they farmed until 1986. A man of many talents, he worked at the meat department at Standby Grocery and for Ed Peterson’s Texaco Station, both in Barnesville, MN. He also worked for Agri-Business in Moorhead, he assisted Mike Nelson in building a pipe organ in Wolverton, MN, spent time as a maintenance man at the Barnesville Motel, did road construction on the Morton Interchange, worked independently as a carpenter, and did deer processing and sausage making.
He belonged to Comstock Lutheran Church where he served on church council. He was a charter member of the Comstock Wild Life Club, and a 4-H leader of the A-OK 4-H Club in Baker, MN. Other hobbies he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, reading, music, and he played on the Comstock Baseball team.
Floyd had a strong faith and a heart of gold and to know him was to love him. He had a quick wit and teasing spirit and no one left a conversation with him without a smile on their face. He was happy to share a story or some sage advice and always wanted to know about how things were for you as well. He never met a stranger in his life…if he knew you, you were his friend, and he cared.
Floyd is survived by his children: James (Jacklyn) Butenhoff, Ames, IA, Ruth (Andy) Kava, Barnesville, MN, and Paul Butenhoff, Erhard, MN; grandchildren: Jamie (Jennifer) Butenhoff, Jolene Lowe, Jena (Jaimeson) Coons, Amy Kava, Danny (Teri) Kava, Emily (Josh) Holmes, and Dillon (Tara) Butenhoff; great-grandchildren: Zachary, Kaylee, and Erica Butenhoff, Dakota Lowe, Declan Coons, Keaton Kava, Case and Caleb Kava, Allen and Dorothy Holmes, and Ryder Butenhoff; and one brother George Butenhoff of Fairfield, MT.
