Mary Kathryn Barry

Mary Kathryn Barry was born on January 3, 1958, to Neil and JoAnn (Gantzer) Barry in Moorhead, MN.  She grew up in rural Barnesville.  Mary attended Assumption Catholic School through the 6^th grade and moved onto Barnesville High School.  She played volleyball through her high school years, earning several awards. 

She attended Moorhead Technical College for a short time and then started working at Sis and Mar’s Café in Barnesville.  Following her time there she worked for American Life Insurance Company, GMAC Leasing, and finally US Bank where she remained for the next 26 years.  She worked in credit card fraud investigations for most of her career and was very dedicated to her job.  Throughout these years she developed many friendships with her co-workers.  She enjoyed organizing food drives and feeding the homeless with her coworkers at the bank. 

Mary was dedicated to her community and church.  She volunteered and spent many years helping with the Potato Days Festival of Barnesville and manning the information booth.  Throughout the years Mary and her mom would spend hours working in the Assumption Food Booth at the Rollag Steam Threshers Reunion.  She was faithful in her church and was a communion assistant for a long time. 

Dedication to her family was first and foremost.  She loved her nephews and nieces as they were her kids, also the grand nieces and nephews.  For many many years, Steve and Darcy would enjoy a weekly supper with Mary on Wednesday nights.  She had a way with children and Mary was able to make them all feel loved and comforted.  Mary was a lifelong member of Assumption Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Mary volunteered many years helping serve meals at the American Legion on Saturday nights.  Mary was a champion asparagus picker and had a keen eye of finding it.  She spent many years helping care for her mom and keeping the farmyard mowed. 

She is survived by siblings Steve (Darcy) Barry of Barnesville, MN, Kevin of St. Cloud, MN, Kent (Janelle) Barry of Barnesville, MN, several nieces and nephews: Tim, Patrick, Jordan (Kellie), Daniel (Nicole), Levi, Jacob, Tyler, Caitlyn, and great nieces and nephews Jace, Maison, Scarlett, Skyler, Marley, Chloe, Nova, Abigail. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Neil and JoAnn Barry, and brother Patrick, and sister Barb Barry, and her beloved dog Arthur. 

Mary unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her home in rural Barnesville on November 18, 2023.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00 AM, Monday, November 27, 2023, at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville with Father Todd Arends presiding.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Barnesville. 

Memorial visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the Memorial Mass on Monday.
