Myrna Mae Halvorson was born on January 22, 1940, to Leonard and Mildred (Olson) Halvorson, in Northwood, North Dakota. Born and raised in North Dakota, Myrna's journey of faith began at Bethel Lutheran Church, Larimore, ND, where she was baptized, and continued at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Larimore, ND, where she was confirmed in her beliefs.
Educated at a country school and Larimore High School, graduating in 1958. Myrna went on to further her studies at North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND, earning an Associate's degree in Home Economics. While in college she cared for the Oscar Gylland family near Colfax, ND. After graduation she worked at Osco Drug in Fargo.
In 1962, Myrna married the love of her life, Carroll J. Anderson, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Larimore, ND. Together, they established their home on a farm near Barnesville, MN, where they raised their children, Jeffrey and Brenda, and built a life filled with love and hard work. Even after Carroll's passing in 1985, Myrna continued to assist on the family farm until she relocated into Barnesville in 2008. She moved into the Hawley Senior Living Center in 2022, and lived there until the time of her death.
An active member of Little Bethany Church, she served on the church council and participated in the women’s groups. She was also very active with the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers’ Reunion. Myrna found joy in serving others through her volunteering and involvement in organizations like HELPERS and the Barnesville Area Food Pantry.
Her creative talents shone through in her love of quilting, sewing, and more recently, painting. She generously shared her skills with numerous local quilting groups, and this past summer her recent artwork was recognized with blue ribbons at the Clay County Fair. Her involvement at the fair has been lifelong as she was a member of 4-H for many years, both as a youth exhibitor and as an adult leader.
Myrna is survived by her children; Jeffrey (TyAnn) Anderson, Barnesville, MN, and Brenda (Marlin) Drewlow, Dilworth, MN; grandchildren: Amanda, Rachel, and Evan; great-granddaughter Elisabeth; brother-in-law Darrel Fossum, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carroll; son Gregory; siblings Larry Halvorson, Judy Fossum, and infant twin brothers.
Myrna’s family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Hawley Senior Living Center and Ethos Hospice and Homecare for the tremendous care that Myrna received from them.
