Richard Wagner, age 87, of Fargo, ND, originally from Barnesville, MN, died on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in the Sanford Hospice House on Broadway in Fargo.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 pm, Friday, May 5, 2023 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville, MN with Military Honors.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Celebration of Life.
Richard Orville Wagner was born on March 2, 1936 to Orville Elmer Wagner and Anna Mae (Wrobel) Wagner in Barnesville, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville. He attended school in Barnesville and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1954. During his high school years, he was active in football. Following high school, he served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1958 as a military policeman. When returning home from the service he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN and became a baker.
On June 27, 1958, Richard was united in marriage to Margaret Osborn. They lived in Graceville, MN for two years before living in Rosemount, MN for a 12-year span and he worked at Lund’s Bakery. They then moved to Moorhead, MN where they lived and raised their daughters. During these years in Moorhead, Richard worked at Buttrey Osco and Sunmart Grocery Stores until he retired. He took a lot of pride in his baking.
For many years after retirement, Richard and Margaret enjoyed summers at Pelican Lake, and they loved having their family and grandchildren fishing at the lake. He was a devoted husband to Margaret and her needs. He has been a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Moorhead, MN.
Richard is survived by two daughters: Deanna (Dewayne) Falls of Fleming Island, FL and Suzanne Blazer of Fargo, two grandsons: James (Emily) Falls of Tampa, FL, and Tristan Blazer serving his country in the US Air Force, three siblings: Dorothy Hegdahl of Valley City, ND, Loretta (Roger) Lemke of St. Cloud, MN, Linda (Don) Dahlen of Twin Valley, MN, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2020, his parents, two siblings: Arlene Ernst and Gerald Wagner.
